Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi says that it took just 8 minutes to sell 5,000 of its Redmi smartphones when they were sold via a Singapore website. It's the third time the company has sold a batch of phones in the country.
It is however, the first time that the company has released sales figures since the smartphone was first launched in Singapore last month.
Xiaomi has a policy of selling phones in batches, and is often accused of holding back quantities to build up demand. The country's three mobile networks are also selling the handset with contracts.
Known as "Hong Mi" in China, the Redmi is a quad-core 1.5Ghz phone with dual sim that runs a modified version of Android OS' Jelly Bean, known as MIUI.
Xiaomi said the launch for Redmi and Mi3 was the first step for a global presence, positioning Singapore as their regional hub.
