Zimbabwe's NetOne Sues Resller Over Unpaid Invoices

Note -- this news article is more than a year old.

Zimbabwe's NetOne is reported to be in a dispute over unpaid fees with one of its resellers that could be worth as much as USD8 million.

According to the reports, a reseller, Firstel Cellular signed up customers to the NetOne network, and took billing payments directly from the customers to be passed to the mobile network.

NetOne is now suing for USD8 million worth of unpaid invoices.

Firstel Cellular is arguing that the unpaid amount is due to customers not paying it the money first than it would be "against public policy" to expect it to pay bills when it had itself not been paid.

NetOne argues that it provides services to Firstel, and it can't be held responsible for Firstel's inability to collect payments.

The issue stems from a currency change in early 2009 when the company started supporting payments in US Dollars and the customers were unable to meet that currency demand.

The matter is now being heard at the Supreme Court.
