Bulgaria's Globul has awarded a contract to Huawei for its upcoming network swap project.

Globul and Huawei will partner for the full swap of the network - both 2G and 3G, replacement and upgrade of the company's access and backbone transport network as well as Globul core network including related services.

The agreement covers a five-year investment cycle and eight-year maintenance services period.

The network swap, planned to be completed during first half of 2015 is the largest in terms of reach and investment and the most ambitious by Globul since the company was acquired by Telenor Group in August 2013.

'At Globul, we are excited with the commencement of this major project. In partnership with Huawei and their advanced technology and expertise, we will be able to build a reliable, high-capacity, 4G-ready network which will enable us to offer our customers cutting-edge technology and the best mobile data and voice service experience,' commented Globul Chief Executive Officer Stein-Erik Vellan.

Financial terms for the contract were not disclosed.
