Two of Bangladesh's mobile network operators have signed an agreement to share a spects of their mobile network infrastructure.
Airtel and the state-owned Teletalk have signed the agreement to share their passive infrastructure elements, typically towers and power supplies. The infrastructure sharing will enable Teletalk to utilize the passive infrastructure of Airtel across the country.
The regulator is expected to approve the deal as it has been pushing for more network sharing anyway.
Chris Tobit, chief executive officer and managing director of Airtel Bangladesh said, "We believe that this partnership will allow us to fully utilise the optimum level of capacity and help us reduce the current pressure through consolidation. We believe that this partnership will allow us to provide high value 3G and 2G data and voice services for our customers."
