France's Vivendi has confirmed that it has received an approach from Altice regarding a potential alliance between SFR and Numericable.
Vivendi said that it has not received any formal offer yet though.
Rumours that Numericable could launch an offer to buy SFR have been around for well over a year, but gained new credence this week.
In related news, SFR released its full year financial results and said that revenues fell by 9.6% to EUR10.2 billion, which it put down to increased competition and regulatory price cuts.
Excluding the impact of the tariff cuts imposed by the regulators, revenues would have decreased by 7.2%.
The customer base though increased by 756,000 to end the year at 21.36 million.
