Orange Moves Closer to CDMA Roaming Support

TSI Telecommunication Services (TSI) says that Orange France has entered into an agreement to become a TSI UniRoam sponsor operator. UniRoam is an ANSI-41 - GSM inter-standard roaming solution that provides international dialing access, automatic call delivery and home wireless system billing, usable throughout wireless networks worldwide. Sponsors supply the necessary support for subscribers to roam into their markets.

"The addition of Orange France as a sponsor for our UniRoam solution greatly expands the roaming coverage operators can offer to their subscribers traveling to Europe and throughout the world," said Michael O'Brien, vice president-marketing. "With UniRoam, operators can offer truly seamless, simplified international roaming to GSM markets - a high-end service and competitive differentiator that attracts valuable business and leisure travel subscribers."

UniRoam provides signaling and billing interoperability between ANSI-41 (used in AMPS, CDMA and TDMA networks) and GSM by assigning temporary mobile identification numbers to subscribers, which are entered in a database to enable the mapping necessary for call validation, delivery and billing. The process is transparent to the wireless subscriber and all billing charges appear on the subscriber's home wireless bill.'"
