Note -- this news article is more than a year old.

Popular messaging app, Snapchat has admitted that there has been an increase in the amount of spam being sent to users of its services.

The company said that it had seen a rise in spam over the past few days, and its team is working on resolving the issue.

They also confirmed that as far as they know, this is unrelated to the Find Friends issue experienced over the holidays.

They did point out that being targetted by spammers is a "consequence of a quickly growing service."

To help prevent spam, users are being advised to adjust their app settings to determine who can send Snaps. They recommend "Only My Friends" so that new accounts opened on the service can't contact random users.
