AT&T Using Samsung Phones to Test VoLTE Services
Published on: 13th Jan 2014
USA based AT T is carrying out VoLTE trials using Samsung smartphones according to industry sources.
The Voice over LTE service is expected to be launched by the US network later this year, and the use of Samsung handsets for the trials is seen as a boost for the Korean firm as the current crop of Apple smartphones don't support VoLTE.
However, the launch is later than expected, as AT&T had suggested a VoLTE launch on its network by the end of last year. The launch may have been pushed back due to the lack of compatible handsets though. They still do not expect it to be a mass market product until 2015 at the earliest.
Samsung has previously released VoLTE capable smartphones in South Korea, for use by SK Telecom and LG U+.
