Thailand Ended 2013 With 95.5 Million Mobile Phone Accounts

Thailand's mobile penetration rate reached 133% at the end of last year the telecoms regulator has announced as the mobile market grew by 9% to end with 95.5 million customers.
Of the total, 25 million have already moved over to the new 3G networks that were launched this year.
As subscriber numbers rose, tariffs fell.
Voice call services fell by 45% to an average of 53 satang per minute, while SMS costs were down by 46% to an average of 84 satang per message.
Mobile internet costs also fell, by around 35% to an average cost across the industry of 21 satang per megabyte.
The NBTC's secretary-general Takorn Tantasit said that he expects more intense competition in 2014 with 3G prices likely to further decline.
