The Zambian government has ruled out any extension to the deadline for mobile phone users to register their SIM Cards.
The government has set a deadline of the 31st December, after which unregistered SIM cards will be disconnected by the mobile networks.
Zambia's Minister of Communications, Yamfwa Mukanga ruled out an extension to the deadline saying that the process had started 18 months ago, and that networks had stopped selling unregistered SIM cards to new customers last month.
Around 4.4 million SIM Cards had been registered by August, which is the most recent data available.
