Optus Upgrades 3G Network - Expands LTE Coverage Along Central Coast

Australia's Optus has announced the upcoming launch of 4G and 4G Plus in select areas of the Central Coast and the completion of extensive 3G upgrades across the coast in time for Christmas and the busy summer period.
Vic McClelland, Managing Director of Networks at Optus said, "The Central Coast is a well-known holiday and day-trip destination, with domestic visitors alone over one million a year. Getting 4G and our 3G upgrades in before summer starts helps the people of the Central Coast and visitors stay connected while hitting some of the area's best known attractions."
"Tangy Dangy and The Entrance North will be the first suburbs on the Central Coast to get 4G Plus too. Optus 4G Plus is our complementary 4G network, which will give customers access to two superfast 4G networks, and more 4G capacity," Mr McClelland said.
Boosted 3G for the holidays
Optus has also completed a series of extensive 3G network upgrades to select sites across the Central Coast. These upgrades bring better indoor coverage and an improved overall 3G experience to Optus customers from Wyong to Pearl Beach, Kariong to Terrigal.
Since the upgrade, Optus has analysed network performance data, and crowd sourced usage info collected from over 6,500 Central Coast customers with 3G phones and tablets. This was done via the Optus Now app. The app crowd sources info such as signal strength and network activity from customers, helping Optus understand customers' actual network experience.
"The data shows customers in upgraded areas of the Coast are now getting a much more consistent 3G experience whether they're at home or out and about, and over the coming weeks they can look forward to the continuing rollout of 4G to select areas," Mr McClelland added.
Optus is also working on adding more mobile sites into its Central Coast network. Kanwal and Gorokan will get a new 3G site before the end of the year, providing locals and summer-holiday-enjoying tourists enhanced 3G coverage and capacity.
