China Mobile has refuted reports that it has signed a deal to sell Apple's iPhone and says that negotiations are still ongoing.
Overnight reports that the two firms had finally struck a deal sent Apple shares higher on expectations of strong sales at the world's largest mobile network operator.
However, the mobile network has denied that a deal has been signed.
"Talks between China Mobile and Apple on cooperation are still going on and we currently do not have anything to announce," the carrier's spokeswoman Rainie Lei told AFP.
There had been widespread expectations that China Mobile would launch its new 4G network, with a customised version of the the iPhone that would finally support data services over its homegrown LTE technology.
China Mobile is due to launch its 4G service on the 18th December.
