Square Buys Photo Sharing Service - Closes It Down

Published on:

Mobile payments services provider Square is buying the photo sharing app developer Viewfinder for an undisclosed amount.

As is increasingly common in such deals, it is the staff and technology that Square wants, and the Viewfinder service is being shut-down.

Viewfinder will remain based in New York, although the staff will move to Square's offices.

As for the Viewfinder, existing users will still be able to use the Viewfinder app for the time being, although the company will no longer be releasing updates or providing customer support.

Neither side is elaborating on why a credit card processor would want to buy technologies associated with photo sharing apps.
