Comium Offices Closed Following Debt Default

One of the main offices of the Sierra Leone based mobile network operator, Comium were closed by High Court bailiffs last week after the company was accused of defaulting on a bank loan.
The mobile network operations have not been affected though as only the one building was sealed, and that handled largely administrative functions. However, following the court order, rival networks, Africell and Airtel have stopped accepting inbound calls from Comium, presumably over concerns about its ability to pay termination fees.
Citing unspecified reports, the local Awoko news agency said that Comium has accrued loans from different commercial banks and service providers amounting to Billions of Leones, which the company cannot refund back.
The amount said to be outstanding in the latest situation is around US$1.2 million, owed to Ecobank Sierra Leone.
Comium has not commented on the developments.
