Intel is reportedly moving into the mobile phone manufacturing business, with a small project in Serbia.
Local news media citing a senior Intel executive, John Davies, reported that the company will produce an initial batch of 50,000 smartphones for the local market, branded as Tesla, after the Serbian-American scientist and inventor Nikola Tesla.
"We should choose the phone and the model, and at which price it would be sold, with Intel's software. It would certainly be a domestic phone with a domestic name," Davis said in Belgrade last week.
He added that the investment was "not about dollars, but about raising and building capacities" in Serbia.
"Serbian companies have the capacity to be our partners in mobile phone manufacturing," Davies was quoted as saying.
