Fifteen Companies Apply for Canadian Spectrum Auction
The Canadian government has published the list of applicants for their 700MHz spectrum auction, which is scheduled for January 14, 2014.
A total of fifteen companies submitted applications by the deadline.
However, in a blow to the government's hope to encourage a fourth national network, none of the bidders come with backing from a large foreign backer.
"Well before this summer's public debate on wireless policy, our Government introduced a number of measures to create more choice in Canada's wireless market and to defend consumers." said the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry. "In addition to this auction, our Government will continue to aggressively pursue policies that ensure consumer interests are at the core of all Government decisions."
The bidders are:
- 1770129 Alberta Inc.
- Bell Mobility Inc.
- BH Wave Acquisition Corporation
- Bragg Communications Incorporated
- Feenix Wireless Inc.
- Globalive Wireless Management Corp.
- MTS Inc.
- Novus Wireless Inc.
- Rogers Communications Partnership
- Saskatchewan Telecommunications
- TELUS Communications Company
- The Catalyst Capital Group Inc.
- Vecima Networks Inc.
