Slovenian Railways to Deploy GSM-R Network

A consortium of companies have been awarded a GSM R deployment contract by Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure for the national railway network.
Kapsch CarrierCom will supply GSM-R technology on track totaling 1,200 km, and will also be responsible for maintenance and servicing. A consortium comprising of the Slovenian telecommunications equipment manufacturer Iskratel and the construction firm GH Holding with Kapsch CarrierCom will build the system by the end of 2015.
The contract is worth around EUR 117 million.
The delivery includes a modern central service control point for the entire service implementation as well as base transceiver stations for the radio connections.
The project will be supported by means from the EU's Cohesion Fund, which was amongst other things set up to promote trans-European transport networks and develop rail transportation.
