Alcatel Lucent says that it has won its largest LTE deployment contract in Western Europe do date, although it declined to say how much the contract is worth.
Alcatel-Lucent says that is to deploy an LTE network overlay for Telefonica Spain which will see it deploy some 8,000 LTE base stations and its 5620 Service Aware Manager (5620 SAM).
Alcatel-Lucent will also deliver installation and turnkey project management services in the initial phase of the project, as well as systems integration, maintenance and configuration optimization.
The company said that the agreement follows two pre-commercial LTE pilot networks in Madrid and Barcelona and the demonstration of Alcatel-Lucent's LTE capabilities over a live network- consisting of small 'metro cells' and macro base stations - with Telefonica in Barcelona back in February 2012.
