Kiribati, a 22 island nation located in the central Pacific Ocean has deployed an LTE network supplied by Lemko and Partner Challenge Network.
Lemko said that the network it has deployed solves issues of remoteness by eliminating backhaul to a central or hosted core.
"The highly distributed nature of the population coupled with the technical and commercial difficulties of only having satellite backhaul have made this a very exciting and successful project," says Simon Lardner, Managing Director at Challenge Networks.
Lemko says that it made use of LTE over satellite, meshed satellite networks and a distributed and virtualized EPC mobile core in the deployment.
