Mobile Number Portability was launched in Moldova earlier this month, and over the past ten days just 550 customers have made use of the service.
The telecoms regulator says that around 2,000 applications are however in the queue for porting as well.
A website set up to handle the process is registering around 126 visitors per day.
The regulator, Anrceti said that it believes that the success of number portability should be assessed not as much in terms of number of portings, as in the efforts providers make to keep their customers by better offers, better quality of services and lower tariffs.
Earlier, Anrceti officials said that the regulator wishes to have a market where number portability will contribute to enhanced competition between providers and the number of portings will not reflect dissatisfaction with a particular provider, but appeal to a better offer at a more advantageous price.
