Vodacom Tanzania to Disconnect Nearly Half a Million SIM Cards
Published on: 10th Jul 2013
Vodacom Tanzania is to cut off nearly half a million SIM cards today as a deadline for SIM card registration expires.
The telecoms regulator mandated the 10th July as the deadline for users to register their SIM cards, and Vodacom has announced that it has secured registration of around 95% of its customer base.
That leaves some 450,000 SIM cards unaccounted for, and due to be switched off today.
As the end of last year, Vodacom had around 9.35 million customers, while its smaller rivals, Airtel, Tigo and Zantel had 8.35 million, 6.37 million and 3.08 million subscribers respectively.
