China Mobile plans to offer at least 11 new TD LTE based mobile phones in the second half of this year as it ramps up its network expansion.
The announcement was made by China Mobile's Chairman, Xi Guohua at a trade conference where a large number of handsets were shown off that are compatible with the company's 4G network.
The worldwide shipment of TD-LTE devices are placed at over three million units.
Xi added that with more global chip manufacturers' participation, the TD-LTE multi-mode multi-band smartphone technology will mature, and eventually lead to convergence with the more widespread FDD based LTE services.
