Djezzy Discovers IT Problem Overstated its Customer Base by 1.4 Million

Algeria's Djezzy has an IT problem that has been over counting its customer base by 1.4 million customers.
According to the most recent financial statement from the company, it had recorded a customer base of 17.93 million at the end of March -- while its correct customer base should have been somewhere in the region of 16.6 million.
In a short statement, the mobile network's parent, Orascom Telecom Holding said that a review of its IT systems discovered a bug in the IT systems that resulted in the overstatement of its subscriber base.
This assessment is still preliminary and the company is still investigating the issue to arrive at its final impact. The company highlighted that Djezzy's Income Statement will not be affected by the restatement of the customer base. However, it should push up the ARPU figure if the same amount of revenue is being split amongst fewer customers.
