Note -- this news article is more than a year old.
Yemen's Sabafon has denied reports earlier this month that it had falsified its financial accounts in order to reduce its tax bill.
Sabafon has issued a statement denying the allegations which had been covered in several newspapers, including the in-house newsletter of the governing political party.
It was claimed that while Yemen Mobile company paid YR 9 billion in taxes, Sabafone paid only YR 300 million for 2012.
Sabafon stated that it ran, is running and will continue to run its business in accordance with Yemen laws and regulations, in keeping with the Ministry of Finance guidelines.
The allegations have however a taint of political opportunism, with allegations that they are being orchestrated in the run up to next year's Presidential elections.
Sabafon's Chairman, Hameed Al-Ahmer was a supporter of the opposition politicians.
