Ericsson Wins Network Upgrade Contract in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan's Azercell has awarded Ericsson a 2G 3G network expansion contract which includes network transformation of over 1,000 2G 3G base station sites. Ericsson will deliver products from its RBS 6000 portfolio, RAN, MINI LINK microwave for increased backhaul capacity as well as carrying out the associated core network expansions.

Deliveries will start in Q2 2013, and the network-expansion project is expected to be completed in one year.

Ericsson has been a strategic partner to Azercell since it was founded in 1996. Milestone contracts include the launch of a commercial 3G network in 2011, as well as the deployment of a pilot 4G network for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in the capital city, Baku.

Financial terms for the latest contract were not disclosed.
