Lucent Launches Indoor CDMA Base Stations
Lucent Technologies has launched two CDMA2000 base station systems. The Flexent CDMA Modular Cell 3.0 is the most recent addition to Lucent's range of CDMA base stations. This base station platform can incorporate power distribution and battery back-up within the base station, reducing the size of the cell site equipment footprint by 33% and can grow to support more radio frequency carriers, increasing capacity for mobile operators.
The second system, the Flexent CDMA High-Density (HD) 3.0, is a base station growth cabinet designed for mobile operators with existing Lucent AUTOPLEX Series II cellular base stations. It preserves a networks investment in the AUTOPLEX systems by enabling them to reuse much of the equipment -- including antennas, filters and amplifiers -- while increasing capacity by adding the new HD 3.0 cabinet.
Verizon Wireless is the first customer to use these products, and is deploying the Modular Cell 3.0 in Dallas and the HD 3.0 in Boston.
The Modular Cell 3.0 is available in both indoor and outdoor versions and can support cdmaOne, CDMA2000 1X voice and data and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO in both 1900 and 850 MHz spectrum. The outdoor version of the Modular Cell 3.0 for 1900 MHz will be generally available in May 2002, while the indoor version and the 850 MHz outdoor and indoor versions will be ready in August 2002.
The HD 3.0 is an indoor system for 850 MHz spectrum that supports cdmaOne, CDMA2000 1X voice and data and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO, while allowing the existing Series II cellular systems to support analog capabilities. It will be generally available later this month in North America with international availability to follow."
