BlackBerry Fans Call for Netflix Boycott
Published on: 26th May 2013
The video streaming service Netflix is facing a boycott by BlackBerry fans after it said that it wasn't planning on developing a mobile app for the latest BB10 operating system.
In a TV interview, Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings said that the BlackBerry user base isn't large enough to justify the investment needed on a dedicated video streaming app for the new smartphones.
He admitted to being a BlackBerry fan himself, in the past, but hasn't used one of their handsets since the iPhone came out.
Reacting to the news, a boycott of the company is being organised on a BlackBerry fans discussion forum.
The posting said that the organsiser hopes the boycott will cost the company "millions of dollars in revenue loss".
However, if the userbase is as small as Netflix claims it is, unless the action gains traction amongst non-Blackberry users, then the boycott would have a negligible impact on their finances.
