Bakcell started modernization of transmission network

Azerbaijan's Bakcell says that it is starting a network upgrade in cooperation with Huawei. The mobile network operator has started modernization of the whole transmission network, to extend capacity and migrate to the MPLS TP technology using Huawei OSN series equipment.
"Following of 3G launch in 2011 and reaching 3G base stations up to 1000 by the end of 2012, only data traffic at Bakcell's network increased more than 8 times. Bakcell's network is a hybrid network that hosting modern IP Transport technologies together with classical TDM/ATM. In order to handle huge 3G IP traffic, deliver high service quality and high throughput to our customers we started modernization of the network," says Yigit Berktash, Chief Technology Officer of Bakcell.
Today, Bakcell Transmission Network core ring capacity reached 40 Gbps (in regional centers) while all edge routers (in administrative region centers) capacity reached 15 Gbps.
As part of the upgrade, Bakcell will be deploying around 400 hybrid microwave links in 2013.
