Spain's Telefonica is reported to have renewed a MVNO agreement with the Spanish cable TV operator, Ono for a further two a half years.
Citing a source familiar with the deal, Reuters reported that the new contract is likely to have been more favourable to Telefonica to reflect rising mobile data traffic and 4G investment plans.
The deal is however also seen as beneficial to Telefonica as the loss of the MVNO could have longer repercussions in a market where customers are seeking out cheaper offers from the virtual networks.
Mobile number portability requests jumped sharply last year, particuarly among the youth market where unemployment is particuarly high.
Ono has been an MVNO partner of Telefonica's since 2007
