E911 Phase 2 Location Service to Be Tested

The Tennessee Emergency Communications Board is to conduct a Phase II wireless E911 location service trial across multiple Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) in the USA state.

Advantage Cellular Systems will participate in the trial by deploying service to its entire subscriber base in six counties. Any 911 callers roaming on Advantage's network or towers will receive that location service. TeleCommunication Systems will provide the wireless location technology infrastructure and service components via its Xypoint Location Platform to route the caller location information to the PSAPs. Allen Telecom's Grayson Wireless Division will install its Geometrix Wireless Location System in the Advantage network to determine the locations of 911 callers. Advantage's customers will receive this service at no additional cost and will not have to convert their current cell phones in order to receive this service.

The Tennessee Emergency Communications Board was created in 1998 to implement wireless E911 service statewide under the FCC requirements and to establish a statewide plan for landline and wireless E9-1-1 service for every Tennessean, administered and governed by local 911 districts, with financial, operational, and technical accountability standards set by the Board."
