Facebook Hires Apple Maps Executive
Published on: 17th Apr 2013
Facebook is reported to have hired Apple's former manager who handled the company's derided mapping service.
Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg News reported that Richard Williamson joined Facebook in recent weeks as part of the company;s growing mobile services division.
Although involved in the early stages of developing the original iPhone software, he was later put in charge of developing Apple's replacement for the Google maps that the company had relied on.
Williamson was fired by Apple in November, officially as part of a management shakeup, but widely believed to be due to the botched launch of the Apple maps service.
Facebook has hired a number of former iPhone developers from Apple as it builds up its mobile business.
