Madrid to Get Underground Cellphone Coverage

The Spanish telecoms infrastructure group, Tecnocom has won a contract from Vodafone to provide GSM coverage in Madrid's underground train service. The contract is for seven years and will provide cellular service along the entire of the train services 180 miles of track. The total cost of the infrastructure is US$42 million and the first phase, covering service on Madrid's busiest train lines will be completed next year.

The installation is being carried out by Metrocall, which is 60% owned by Tecnocom and 40% owned by the railway company, Metro de Madrid"
