A suggestion that Microsoft could be working on a smaller version of its Surface tablet has been given a boost after the company modified the guidelines for hardware developers.
As discovered by ZDNet, the company changed its certification rules for Windows 8 to include a new resolution for touch screen devices: 1024 x 768 pixels. That compares with current specifications which require a minimum resolution of 1366 x 768.
It was noted that the new screen resolution just happens to be the same as Apple's 7.85-inch iPad Mini -- adding fuel to the rumours that the two tech giants may go head to head in the tablet market at last.
However, it was also commented that the smaller screen will lose some functionality as well - specifically the loss of snap, a feature that allows two Windows Store apps to be viewed simultaneously side by side.
