Andy Rubin Steps Down As Head of Android OS at Google

Published on:

Google has announced that the head of the Android smartphone project, Andy Rubin is to step aside and take up another -- still unspecified -- role in the company.

A somewhat rambling blog post by Google' CEO, Larry Page seemed to suggest that the decision would appear to have been Andy's and that the company isn't pushing out of the Android project.

His role is being handed over to Sundar Pichai will lead Android, in addition to his existing work with Chrome and Apps.

Whether the decision to have one person heading up both Android and other internal Google services indicates a tighter integration by Google of the two sides, or a relaxing of its tight grip over the Android OS as the boss is distracted by his other responsibilities is something that time will tell.
