Airspan Wins WiMAX Deployment Contract in South Sudan

Published on:

Airspan Networks says that it has been awarded a WiMAX network deployment in South Sudan by RCS-Communication. The first phase of the implementation started in Juba, the capital city.

"We made the investment to upgrade our current WiMAX network to the latest generation technology in readiness for further network improvements and specific service offerings we have planned." said Flippie Odendal, RCS-Communication Managing Director for South Sudan. "Airspan was selected as our vendor because we believe their solution offers us the best scalability and widest choice of future options."

Air4G is a dual platform 4G base station enabling operators to run either LTE or WiMAX or both concurrently. This ability allows for a migration to LTE when and where the operator is ready.

In addition to the macro base stations and other related products and services Airspan is supplying RCS with a network management system, which will also manage any LTE network when deployed if and when RCS decides to activate that.
