T-Mobile USA Starts Cutting HQ Staff Ahead of MetroPCS Takeover

Published on:

T-Mobile USA is reported to be making cuts at its headoffice as the company edges closer to its planed merger/takeover of MetroPCS.

Various news reports say that the company has made around 100 staff redundant at the headoffice, although below the level necessary to trigger a mandatory notice to the state Employment Security department.

Although job losses were expected as a result of the merger, it is unusual for them to start before the deal had even been voted on by MetroPCS shareholders. It could be seen as arrogance by T-Mobile, or as reassuring that the company wouldn't gut the MetroPCS operations alone.

The company is also reputed to have set up offices to handle the integration of the two companies post merger.

The Department of Justice has approved the merger, and it is just waiting for final regulatory approvals before being put to a shareholder vote.
