Motorola Mobility Cutting a Further 1,200 Jobs

Published on:

Motorola Mobility is reported to be cutting a further 10 percent of its workforce, or around 1,200 employees worldwide as the company continues its retrenchment.

The staff were told by internal email that the company needs to cuts costs and it is still operating in unprofitable markets. The bulk of the redundancies will take place in the USA, China and India.

The company has already cut around 4,000 jobs since it was bought by Google in mid-2011 and decided to shrink its operations to just a few key markets.

"These cuts are a continuation of the reductions we announced last summer," said Gabe Madway, a spokesman for Motorola Mobility. "It's obviously very hard for the employees concerned, and we are committed to helping them through this difficult transition."
