Pakistani Networks Ordered to Resolve SIM Card Registration Issues

Published on:

Pakistan's Prime Minister has ordered the telecoms regulator and the ICT Ministry to review procedures for verifying SIM card ownership following complaints about delays and the ongoing sale of unregistered cards.

The regulator recently ordered that registered SIM Card details be revalidated by the mobile networks.

At a meeting between the government agencies and the mobile networks, the networks said that verification of customer identity was taking longer than expected and that it would not be possible to re-verify the ownership of all SIM cards in circulation by the required deadline.

The ministry, regulator and mobile networks have been ordered to come with with a plan of action by the end of this week.
