Orange Moldova Gets Temporary GSM License Extension

Published on:

Orange Moldova has been granted a temporary GSM license lasting 20 months to replace its existing license that is due to expire this coming Thursday.

The telecoms regulator, ANRCETI says that it formally awarded the license at the end of last month as the current license which was awarded in 1998 was due to expire.

Rather than auctioning off a replacement license, the temporary extension allows the regulator to synchronize Orange's license with that held by rival network, Moldcell.

The regulator is now working on a new set of technology neutral licenses in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands which will be issued by public tender in 2014.

Orange paid EUR1.77 million for its license extension. The new license expires in May 2014.
