Sprint Nextel Declines to Carry BlackBerry's Flagship Touchscreen Smartphone

Published on:

USA based Sprint Nextel is expected to be the only major US network that wont carry BlackBerry's latest flagship smartphone, the touchscreen only Z10 handset.

The company will however wait until later this year to carry the BlackBerry Q10, which comes with the same operating software, but also includes the classic BlackBerry keyboard in addition to a smaller touchscreen display.

However, BlackBerry is predicting that sales of the keyboard version will only be around a third of the sales of the touchscreen only smartphone.

"We aren't saying there's anything different about our customers," Mark Elliott, a Sprint spokesman told Bloomberg News. "We think our customers will be happy with the qwerty keyboard and touch screen on the Q10."

The Q10 smartphone is not expected to be available for sale in the USA until next month at the earliest as it undergoes carrier testing.

Sprint Nextel has also committed to a substantial sales volume of Apple's iPhone, and may be worried about canibalising those sales by offering a touchscreen competitor for customers to choose between.
