Qatar Telecom Posts Strong Rise in Quarterly Profits

­Qatar based Ooredoo -- the new name for Qatar Telecom -- has reported fourth quarter revenues that rose by 6.4% to reach QAR8.71 billion (US$2.4 billion), and a net profit that was up by 14.6% to QAR 523 million (US$144 million).

The revenues growth was driven by healthy increases in Iraq, Algeria, Qatar and Indonesia supported by a stable performance by Nawras.

The company ended last year with 92.9 million customers across its subsidiaries, representing a growth of 11.5% over the year.

Commenting on the results, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al-Thani, Chairman of Ooredoo said: "Today's record results demonstrate that we are ready to take our company to the next level. We have delivered record revenue and are seeing on-going growth in some of the most important sectors for the future, such as mobile data and broadband services."
