Eagle Mobile Launches 3G Network in Albania

­Albania's Eagle Mobile has launched its first 3G network, with coverage initially available in the region of Tirana, Fushėkruja and Airport.

The regions of Durres, Kavaje, Laē and Shkodėr are nearing completion of their upgrades, and the 3G service coverage will continue to expand throughout the country within a few months.

Although late to launch 3G, the mobile network operator said that its 3G service is however the first to offer HSPA+ in the country. The service will offer theoretical peak rates of 42Mbps.

Eagle Mobile is a subsidiary of the landline operator, ALBtelecom.

Vodafone was until now the monopoly 3G service provider in the country.
