Apple is understood to be working on patching some of the exploits in its iPhone software that are used by 3rd party apps to "jailbreak" the handsets.
Jailbreaking allows users to load apps onto their phone without having to rely on the Apple iTunes store, and as such is a popular option for a sizeable minority of Apple users.
However, jailbreaking apps are in a constant battle with Apple as the company seeks to close down loopholes only for the jailbreak apps to find fresh exploits.
David Wang, who developed the popular jailbreak software evasi0n told Forbes that the 6.1.3 beta 2 update patches at least one of the five bugs the jailbreak exploits - and potentially the most significant one related to a flaw in the OS clock.
He told Forbes that fixing that bug would kill off the evasi0n jailbreaking software - at least until he is able to find a way around it, if such a hole is left to exploit.
