Qtel Group and Subsidiaries to Unify Under New Brand

Published on:

Qatar Telecom has announced that it is no longer to be known as a company based in Qatar, or a telecoms company, or want any capitals in its name whatsoever. The company is be known henceforth as "ooredoo".

The company will also rebrand all its controlled subsidiaries Indosat in Indonesia, Wataniya in Kuwait, Nawras in Oman, Tunisiana in Tunisia, and Nedjma in Algeria.

The word "ooredoo" means "I want" in Arabic.

Chief Executive Officer of Qtel Qatar, Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, said: "This is a proud moment for Qtel in Qatar. Our company is at the heart of a global communications company that serves nearly 90 million people in communities around the world. Qtel in Qatar will be the first company in the Group to align with this new brand, and we will continue to find new ways to surprise and delight our customers."

Note, that for clarity, we will have to capitalise the brandname when writing about the company as it is standard style guidance that names should always be capitalised. The ongoing marketing fashion for dropping capital letters does not take that into account.
