Nigerian Regulator Maintains 2.5% Annual Levy on Telecoms Operators

Published on:

Nigeria's telecoms regularor, the NCC has reiterated that the mobile networks must pay an Annual Operating Levy of 2.5 percent of their net revenue to the regulator.

The regulator is currently reviewing the levy agreement, which raises money for amongst other things, subsidising telecoms services in rural areas.

Among the issues the NCC is seeking to address through the new regulation ranges from non- payment of operating levies, delayed remittances, non-compliance to set ruled and failure to submit financial statement  to the commission as required by law.

The regulator has however agreed to also look into complaints by the mobile networks relating to the difficulty of dealing with varying regulations around the country which hamper network expansion and cause reliability problems when base stations are arbitrarily shut-down by local authorities.
