Alcatel-Lucent Names Former Vodafone Exec As New CEO

Alcatel-Lucent has named a Vodafone executive as its new CEO, replacing the outgoing CEO, Ben Verwaayen who announced his resignation earlier this month.
Vodafone's former Europe Region CEO, Michel Combes will take up the new role leading Alcatel-Lucent from the start of April. He had been due to take over at the French mobile network, SFR before that deal feel through following the board room shakeup at Vivendi.
Michel Combes, 51 has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry on a worldwide basis. He was Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Europe and a Board member of Vodafone PLC. During his career, he has held the positions of Chairman and CEO of TDF as well as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Executive Vice President of France Telecom.

Ben and Michel will work closely together over the next few weeks to ensure a smooth transition."
Effective immediately, Alcatel-Lucent's Board of Directors also approved the appointment of Jean C. Monty as Vice-Chairman of the Board.
