Cambodian Mobile Networks Complete Merger Agreement

Two of Cambodia's mobile networks, Hello Axiata and Smart Mobile have completed a previously announced merger, and will be adopt a refreshed Smart Mobile brand identity.
The merged networks have a combined customer base of over 5 million.
The newly merged mobile network is to be headed by Thomas Hundt, former CEO of Smart Mobile, while Simon Perkins, former CEO of Hello Axiata, will be appointed as the Executive Director on the Board of Directors.
Mr. Hundt said that "Together we are much stronger. This transaction has brought together Axiata Group's strength and scale, both Hello's and Smart Mobile's loyal customers, sizeable assets and extensive network coverage,"
He added that although Smart's primary focus would be on the youth and data user segments, the company also plans to grow the equally important corporate segment.
Over the course of the next few months upon the completion of all its operational and network integration, Mr. Hundt said, the company expects to start realising the synergies of scope and scale. Once complete, the combined network will cover 97% of Cambodian population.
Additionally, Mr. Hundt said, from today, calls made between Hello and Smart will be charged as within network calls and all existing scratch cards will be interoperable i.e. the respective scratch cards can be used to recharge both current Hello and Smart Mobile numbers.
