Published on:

Nokia Siemens Networks and Panasonic Mobile Communications have been selected by NTT DoCoMo to develop mobile broadband network architecture for LTE-A.

As part of a multi-year agreement, the two companies will provide NTT DoCoMo with base stations optimized for the requirements of LTE-A. Financial terms were not disclosed.

These base stations will ensure initial equipment capacity of 300 Mbps in the network and enable new cloud-based architecture and services. In addition, the two vendors will provide Remote Radio Head (RRH) to roll out small cells to enhance the coverage and capacity of the LTE-A network.

Nokia Siemens Networks and Panasonic Mobile Communications will develop, and deliver base station hardware and software based on Nokia Siemens Networks' Liquid Radio architecture. This will provide higher capacity and throughputs with centralized and coordinated processing for heterogeneous networks (HetNet). In addition, the two vendors will deliver RRH for small cells rollout to enhance the coverage and capacity of the LTE-A network.
