MTN Nigeria Faces Base Station Demolition Threat

Published on:

MTN's Nigerian subsidiary is facing the threat of having its towers in the Niger Delta region dismantled in a dispute with a contractor.

It's being claimed that one of MTN's contractors, Procomtel outsourced the work to another company, Gbaruka Resources, and that this company has not been paid.

An open letter sent by Gbaruka Resources to MTN says that the failure of Procomtel to settle the bills, and it claims, the failure of MTN to step into settle the dispute means it will have no choice by to start demolition of the base stations.

The company has given MTN until the end of this week to settle the dispute before it takes action.

The legality of its actions may be questioned though, as a contractor rarely owns the infrastructure it erects, and its actions will only increase its costs in the long term.
