BlackBerry Wont Launch New Smartphones in Japan

Published on:

BlackBerry is to stop selling its handsets in Japan due to the combination of low market share and the high cost of modifying its phones for the local market, the Nikkei newspaper has reported.

The newspaper said that the smartphone manufacturer's market share has slumped from 5 percent at its peak to just 0.3% at the end of last year.

The company will continue to offer support to its existing customers in the country, but the BlackBerry 10 based smartphones wont be launched there.

"Japan is not a major market for BlackBerry, and we have no plans to launch BlackBerry 10 smartphones there at this time." the company confirmed in an emailed statement.
